Karyn Lovegrove Gallery / Ian Patrick

On display at the Karyn Lovegrove Gallery until March 22nd,
is an exhibition of new paintings by Ian Patrick. Replacing the burlesque props and classical references of his previous work with a blend of story-book parables, tabloid zoology and Scando-pagan kitsch, Ian Patrick's paintings continue to explore the gap between desire and fulfillment, carnality and transcendence. His recent paintings combine the graphic with the illusionistic, playing lush color and deep glazes against moments of hard-edged geometry and bold, lyrical contour, creating complex, swirling compositions that reveal their content with a sly theatricality.
